A story of betrayal and revenge set in 1940s Shanghai. Wong, a student-turned-spy who has been sent to infiltrate the household of Mr Yee, a hated collaborator with the Japanese, finds her plans go awry when emotions start to surface. This beautifully told spy thriller really comes to life once the passion outruns the politics leading to sex scenes far less coy than in Brokeback Mountain. Once again Lee demonstrates what a master filmmaker he is.

"Absorbing, beautifully crafted and emotionally devastating." London Film Festival
