Second-generation French Moroccan Reda is appalled when forced to drive his father on a pilgrimage to Mecca. He finds himself stuck in a car for 3000 miles with a man who not only speaks a different language but also has a totally different view of the world. As their epic journey progresses the uncomfortable pair are pulled apart, forced together and slowly move towards some kind of mutual understanding. Their trip culminates in astounding scenes of Mecca that give a rare insight into the spiritual power of Islam, while Ferroukhi's subtle characterisation and faith in small gestures makes for a touching look at the relationship between father and son.
