Dillon gives a career best performance as Henry Chinaski a deadbeat poet who drifts from job to job while his real commitment is to drinking, gambling, writing unsuccessful stories and getting it on with women as unbridled and inebriated as him. A marvellously funny, tender film full of dry humour, unsentimental generosity and a perceptive faithfulness to Charles Bukowski's writing and view of the world.
