Hugely ambitious and gloriously cinematic, this interweaves the stories of four groups of strangers tenuously linked by a rifle. When two boys tending goats on a Moroccan hillside try out the gun they accidentally hit an American tourist and so set off a chain of events across the world. The wounded woman and her estranged husband struggle to get help, while back home their kids lives are in danger when their nanny takes them to Mexico so she can attend her son's wedding. In Japan, the gun's original owner is struggling with the aftermath of his wife's suicide and his deaf-mute daughter's rebellious adolescence. Each strand has its own distinctive look and feel, each reflects on the relationship between parents and their children, and each suggests that assumptions and prejudices are more divisive than language barriers or borders.
