On The Black Hill (15)
Director: Andrew Grieve
Starring: Bob Peck, Mike Gwilym, Robert Gwilym
UK, 1987, 1 hour 57 minutes
Based on Bruce Chatwin’s novel and filmed on the Herefordshire borders, this is a touching tale of eighty years of the life and times of the inseparable Jones twins. Born on the Black Hill, they spend their lives toiling together on the soil, their chances of joy stifled by hardship, stiff-necked pride and the chapel. One of the most beautiful films ever made in Britain, with excellent performances throughout, this perfectly captures the crabbed life of the Welsh hill farmers in a way that is both moving and entertaining.
Director Andrew Grieve will introduce the screening.
