Wilbur keeps trying to top himself, while his older brother Harbour makes every effort to keep him alive and keep their antiquated bookshop in business. A darkly comic romantic drama that is wildly idiosyncratic and beautifully realised, Wilbur contains some of the funniest scenes and most engaging characters in a British movie all year - the suicides therapy group, the lovelorn nurse, Horst, the depressed psychiatrist, and, a ghastly kids birthday party. Scherfig deftly handles the move from great comedy to sickening tragedy to create an amusing, tender, and thoroughly enjoyable romantic comedy.
