The Station Agent (PG)
Director: Tom McCarthy
Peter Dinklage, Patricia Clarkson, Bobby Cannavale
USA, 2003, 1 hour 30 minutes
The story of three outsiders who become reluctant companions has a natural charm and easy grace that owes much to a script full of pithy wisecracks and laconic dialogue. Finn, a taciturn, train-spotting dwarf, inherits an old station in the back of beyond where he hopes to find peace and solitude but instead is adopted by two well-meaning, lonely souls. A droll yarn that has a heart-warming optimism about a group of oddball characters who all emerge as real people thanks to engaging performances from the three leads.
